Pope Francis announced he would consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on 25 March 2022, at Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome. A consecration ceremony is also scheduled in Fatima, Portugal by the Papal almoner, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski.
Former Pope Benedict will join in consecration of Russia.
Some scholars believe that Pope Pius XII’s most significant contribution was his consecration of the entire world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, on October 31, 1942, the twenty-fifth anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima.
Former Cardinal Ratzinger, the Pope Emeritus Benedict, will join privately, not in the St. Peter's ceremony; bishops around the world announce their participation
Archbishop Georg Gänswein, the personal secretary of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, confirmed that Benedict will join in Pope Francis’ consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart.
“Of course, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI will join Pope Francis’ call in prayer with regard to the consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary,” Archbishop Gänswein confirmed to CNA Deutch.
The Pope Emeritus will not join the penance service in St. Peter’s during which the consecration will take place, but will join privately from his residence.
Bishops all over the world are confirming their participation as well.
For example, Archbishop Anthony Fisher of Sydney, Australia, will have his cathedral open from 2.30 am on Saturday, to correspond to 5 pm Rome time Friday. “I invite you all to join with me at this time and to unite ourselves in prayer for peace in our world,” the archbishop said.
The secretary-general of the bishops’ conference of the Philippines said that country’s bishops will carry out the same act of consecration the same day in their respective dioceses.
Cardinal Vincent Nichols, from Westminster in England, has invited his flock to join with him in the consecration.
My husband Richard and I knew Father Welch when he was serving as a Navy Chaplain at the Brunswick Naval Air Station base chapel, before it was closed. He was very welcoming to everyone. My husband joked with him about his having so many years serving in the military, but yet he was only a full Lieutenant. Father Welch was so funny, he responded with, "Yes, but I am a 'senior' Lieutenant!". A humerous concept, something only people in the Navy would get. My husband is a retired Master Chief Petty Officer. He could get away with this kind of "rank joke", because Master Chief Petty Officers are often expected to give junior officers a hard time! Haha. Rest in Peace: Rev. Bernard “Bud” Welch passed away late in the day on Tuesday, May 14th, 2024, at Coastal Landing in Brunswick ME. Fr. Welch was ordained to the priesthood on May 2, 1981. He would have celebrated his 90th birthday on May 18th. A retired U.S. Air Force member, Fr. Welch served a critical r...
