BRUNSWICK, Maine- Beautiful liturgy celebrated at St. John the Baptist in Brunswick on New Year's Day 2020, the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God,, with Father Tom Murphy, pastor, celebrant. 

A feast day of the Blessed Virgin Mary under the aspect of her motherhood of Jesus Christ. It is celebrated by the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church on 1 January, the Octave (8th) day of Christmastide.

Singing the Ave Maria in Latin*, with organ accompaniment, as the Communion Hymn, was especially moving.  I regret not knowing the soloists' or organist's names, but they certainly moved the congregation with the solo and organ accompaniment.  Excellent acoustics in the St. John's sanctuary were perfect for the singing of this classic prayer and hymn.

Father Richard Rice obituary- blessed with many spiritual gifts and a lifetime of friendships

Reverend Richard Rice Obituary My family met Father Rice when he was the pastor of Holy Family Parish in Sanford.  He was a religious leader, an advocate for the Saint Thomas parochial school and a mentor to women religious. Maine has lost a devout priest who helped many people. He was blessed and will be missed. Brunswick - Very Rev. Richard P. Rice, 91, of Ward Circle died Friday, February 21, 2025, at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. He was born in Biddeford on December 11, 1933, the only child to John and Mary Margaret (O’Brien) Rice. Father Richard Rice first considered the priesthood in sixth grade. He graduated from Cheverus High School in Portland in 1952. While attending college, in 1954, he met with the Most Reverend Daniel J. Feeney who assigned him as a seminarian for the diocese.  After two years of college, he entered St. Paul’s University and Seminary in Ottawa for philosophy and theology studies. Our Lady of Champion in Wisconsin is sacred where a Marion apparition is approved

Green Bay Wisconsin-   Bishop David L. Ricken announced that the national shrine will begin celebrating an annual Mass with the liturgical rank of solemnity every October 9. National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion, Wisconsin ,  A Marian shrine in rural northeast Wisconsin, the only shrine in the United States to be designated by the Catholic Church as an approved Marian apparition site, is changing its name. During a press conference April 20, Green Bay Bishop David L. Ricken announced the National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help will now be known as the National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion .
