Thank you to beautiful Teresa Murphy, soloist and the keyboard accompanist Sheila Murphy, for providing the lovely "Our Lady of Knock" hymn, following the Eucharist, during the St. Patrick's Day Mass, at St. Charles Borromeo.
Teresa Murphy performed the hymn "Our Lady of Knock" during the St. Patrick's Day Mass, at St. Charles Borromeo in Brunswick, Maine. |
Our Lady of Knock with lyrics by Dana (Rosemary Scallon): A YouTube taping of the hymn was sung at St. Patrick's Cathedral, in New York City is at this link*.
Lyrics:
There were people of all ages gathered 'round the gable wall
poor and humble men and women, little children that you called
we are gathered here before you, and our hearts are just the same
filled with joy at such a vision, as we praise Your Name
Golden Rose, Queen of Ireland, all my cares and troubles cease
as we kneel with love before you, Lady of Knock, my Queen of Peace
Though your message was unspoken, still the truth in silence lies
as we gaze upon your vision, and the truth I try to find
here I stand with John the teacher, and with Joseph at your side
and I see the Lamb of God, on the Altar glorified
Golden Rose, Queen of Ireland, all my cares and troubles cease
as we kneel with love before you, Lady of Knock, my Queen of Peace
And the Lamb will conquer and the woman clothed in the sun
will shine Her light on everyone
and the lamb will conquer and the woman clothed in the sun,
will shine Her light on everyone
poor and humble men and women, little children that you called
we are gathered here before you, and our hearts are just the same
filled with joy at such a vision, as we praise Your Name
*The remains of Mr. John Curry, one of the Knock visionaries who was present during the Marian Apparition of August 21,1879, in Knock, Ireland, was interred in the alter at St. Patrick's Cathedral, in New York City. Report of the interment is published in the "Irish America" newspaper link here. During a pouring rain, the figures of Mary, Joseph, John the Evangelist and a lamb on a plain altar appeared over the gable of the village chapel, enveloped in a bright light. None of them spoke. 15 people, between the ages of 5 and 75, saw the Vatican approved apparition.
